The Frank Green Six-A-Side Final

The final between Congleton Park “A” and Westlands proved to be yet another very close match throughout the evening with Westlands just keeping their nose in front by 2 points after the first 3 games (adding half of Congleton’s handicap) by 59 points to 57 points.  The second half of the match saw great drama in the final game on the green between Paul Charlesworth (Congleton) and Steve Howe (Westlands) where it was nip and tuck throughout, but the turning point came towards the end where Steve looked to be in control winning 16-14 and only needed one more point to make Westlands the winners.  Paul however gained the block back and played some inspired bowling to gain the upper hand and to go 20-16 up so giving the possibility of a play-off game.  The drama wasn’t over yet however as Steve managed to win the next end, and though Paul eventually won the game 21-18 Steve had still done enough to secure the match for Westlands with a narrow victory 112 points to 110 points.
Congratulations to Westlands for a fine win. They have now won this trophy 4 times in  the last 5 years!
